Do Not Dwell On The Negatives

Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.

Confucius

Do not dwell on the negatives.  If you make a mistake, learn from it and move on.  We all make mistakes, it is part of life.  Learning from them is how we grow.  If you fall, pick yourself up, dust off and try again.  Always remember the quote above, "Our greatest glory is not in never fallling but in rising every time we fall".

Don't Let Them Steal Your Joy!

"A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty."
Winston Churchill

Have you ever had a friend that brings you down with negativity every time you talk to them? As Joel Osteen would say, "Don't let them steal your joy!"

There are a couple of people I have in my life that bring me down. They are forever mad at the world, depressed, negative about everything, and never have good things to say. I try to stay as far away from these people as I can. If you are positive, they still find someway to bring negativity into the picture. Having people like this in your life can be detrimental to changing your mind to think positively. It is quite frustrating!

Unfortunately, sometimes we can't get away from them because they are family. If this is the case, all you can do is continue to be positive and ignore their negativity the best you can. You won't be able to change their way of thinking unless they want to change. If they don't want to be happy no matter what you say, just ignore their negativity as much as you can. Don't spend more time with them than you have to.

For those who are negative and depressed all the time: You would have a lot more good friends if you would just change the way you think. I am not judging, I used to be the same way. I was always complaining, always sad, always negative. You know what? People didn't enjoy being around me, and I can't blame them.

When I changed my way of thinking and thought positively and was happy in spite of negative circumstances, it change me for the better. I got comments from people. I was told by one person that they didn't like me very much because of the way I was. I took that as constructive criticism. I only improved from there. I didn't want people to look at me as that kind of person.

I am not seeing the world through rose-colored glass. I know that negative things are going to happen in our lives. When they do, we have the choice to see the good or the bad in the situation.
Every time something negative happens to me, I believe everything is going to be okay. It might seem like the end of the world, but it always turns out okay.

My problem was that I grew up with constant negativity around me. It was ingrained in my mind. I chose to change it. It takes some work. I had to constantly remind myself, when I thought of something negatively.  I would have to catch it and quickly change my thinking to something positive. For example, if I was ticked off because I got caught in traffic, I would quickly change my thinking to believing there was a reason why I was stopped in traffic. I would think that maybe I was being saved from a horrible accident otherwise. Sometimes, I would just enjoy the beauty around me. So many people are oblivious to the beauty because they are in too much of a hurry.

How often do you look at the beautiful sky, clouds, trees, colorful skies, and green grass? We usually don't slow down enough to enjoy anything. How often do we stop and appreciate all of the wonderful things we have? We have so much that helps us do things efficiently: cell phones, computers, i pods, palm pilots, I could go on and on. Instead of appreciating all of these wonderful things, we complain about not having enough hours in the day. Think of what it took for people to get all of the things done years ago when none of these things existed. We have so much to be grateful for, but we choose to complain about what we don't have. As they say, "Stop and smell the roses". There are so many wonderful roses to smell!

Be A Person Of Value

Try not to become a man of success but a man of value.
Albert Einstein

Joel Osteen talked about, "Being a person of value ". He made a good point...He said that he had a $100 dollar bill in his pocket. He asked the audience how many people would want it. The audience all said they would want it. He asked the audience what they would do if he took it and balled it all up so that it would be all wrinkled. Would they still want it? The audience of course said yes. He asked the audience what they would do if he took it outside and stomped on it in the mud so that it was all dirty. Would they still want it? The audience said yes. Joel explained that they would still want it because it still has the same value. That is how God sees us, no matter how many mistakes we make, we are still as valuable to him.
Be a person of value. Be the best you can be at work. Be the best friend you can be. Be the best wife/husband you can be. Be the daughter/son you can be. I could go on forever. Be the best you can be to everyone and to everything and you will be happy at the end of the day. I guess what I am saying is...be a good person, you won't be sorry that you did.

To be happy, we must not be too concerned with others.
Albert Camus

So many people want what someone else has. God made you unique and the way you are for a reason. Be happy with what you have and what you are.

Also, don't gossip and talk badly about others. In my opinion, when you put others down, you are just trying to feel better about you. If it takes putting others down to make you look and feel better, then the real problem is you.

Volunteer

Volunteer
Volunteering can be so good for you! It will help you feel better about yourself, but at the same you are helping others.

If you don't have a lot of extra time, consider donating to a charity. If you do not have extra money, donate your time. Even if you only have an extra hour a week, it could help so much. Visit an animal shelter and help out where ever needed. You could ask a church if they need any help, tell them you only have an hour a week and you would like to help them some way. They will find something for you to do, I am sure. You could take a bag of groceries to the elderly or a single mother who has a hard time making ends meet. There are so many things that you could do for good, I could go on forever. It will do wonders for your self-esteem and helps take your mind off of your own problems for a little while.

When you think that you are having the worst day in the world, think of people who have it so much worse. Then, you can begin to appreciate your life and realize your day is not so bad.

Visit Volunteer Match to find volunteer opportunities in your area.

Quote

When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us. Helen Keller

Be Grateful For What You Have

We need to be thankful for what we have. So many of us focus on the things that we don't have instead of being grateful for what we do have. Did you ever notice that if we have straight hair, we want curly hair. If we have a car, we want a truck. If we have a job, we want a better one and so on. God won't bless us with more, until we are thankful for what we have right now.

Here is what I want you to do...

1. Each morning think of 3 things you are grateful for.

2. Every time you hear someone say, "Thank you", including yourself, remember these three things. It can be the same things each day or they can be three different things each day.

3. If you pray to God, thank him for these three things before you ask for anything.

In this blog, I refer to God because that is who I believe in. You can refer to whom ever you want, the universe, or whom ever you believe created you. I am not here to judge, that is not my job. I am not telling you whom you should believe in. My goal is to guide you towards happiness.

About This Blog

In this blog, I want to post many things that will help you on the road to happiness. I was once a very unhappy person. It was no fun being and feeling that way. There are several things that made me a happier person and I want to share different inspirational quotes and a new way of thinking that will change your life.
A lot of what I will talk about in this blog will be ways to be positive. I find a lot of inspiration from Joel Osteen, a famous minister on television. His focus is on being positive, and being positive is the way to happiness in my opinion. So many of us have been taught unconciously to think negatively and it is hard to get out of that way of thinking. Negative thoughts lead to unhappiness. Unhappiness leads to depression, which affects an estimated 17 million people in the United States. However, in this blog I am going to show you how to get out of the negative rut. It will take a little time and effort, but if you try, I believe you will become a happier person.
I will also be posting motivational and inspirational quotes. I find many people respond to these, and when most people find a quote they like, they often repeat it. I find that repeating something that motivates or inspires you often, will help you on the way to happiness.

Happy road to happiness!
